The history of the company goes back to 1999, when a group of experts was formed and the first energy trading projects were realized. In 2001 a privately owned power trading company called OstElektra GmbH was established in Munich with the aim to originate and develop new energy projects in Central and Eastern Europe. Between 2001 and 2007 OstElektra extended its business activities by establishing subsidiaries in five countries: Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland and Serbia. OstElektra was an active wholesale electricity trader on liberalized and non-liberalized markets with its focus on cross-border trading between Central, Eastern as well as South-Eastern European countries.
In 2008, OstElektra Equipment GmbH was founded. Its activity concentrates on the supply of electro technical equipment for generation, transmission and distribution to Eastern European countries, especially in Russia and other CIS countries. Here the main focus is the re-equipment and supply of necessary equipment for operated or new substations. Ostelektra Equipment successfully cooperates with leading equipment producers such as «Siemens» and others. In 2008, OstElektra GmbH was renamed into S4E Group GmbH and its operational business activities were transferred to its subsidiaries.
Besides its existing trading subsidiaries the S4E Group has established a new major European energy trading house: advanced energy trading GmbH. aet is an active trading member of European trading markets for power, gas, coal, oil and CO2. In 2010, S4E Group sold her subsidiaries in Czech Republic and Slovakia and set up a new branch for its subsidiary advanced energy trading GmbH in Czech Republic. In 2011 and 2012 S4E Group sold her subsidiaries in Hungary, Serbia and Poland. The S4E Group is now acting as a holding company for its energy commodity trading, energy equipment and energy project business.
